Dear Readers:

Last week while meeting and speaking with the wonderful guests who attended my Preston Bailey & Friends Event, I was overwhelmed by the incredible support and synergy showcased by the guests with one another. When one person had a question about social media, another chimed in with an idea and asked about branding. It was a really dynamic environment, one in which attendees chose to see themselves as colleagues instead of competitors, thus helping to create an atmosphere of support and education. Truth be told, I was both pleased and impressed.

I have always adhered to the ideology that there is room for all of us in this industry and that no one person is meant to get all of the jobs, and they shouldn’t. I am not the designer for everyone and do not want to be. I am also not someone who thinks I can do it all. Though I like to know what is going on with my company at all times, I do my best to hire experts in different areas, and just as I advise my brides to do, I guide them and then trust them to do their jobs.

Today, I want all of you to really think about the men and women in your professional lives and pay close attention to the way you filter information associated with them and the business you are in. Is there a way for you to turn a competitor into a colleague, learn from those around you and/or team up with someone with a different skillset and build both brands as a result?

I firmly believe that competition is a wonderful way to stay at the top of your game, but it is far better to be inspired than intimidated by others; not only for you, but for them, your clients, and the industry as a whole.

Do you agree?

Blessings,

Preston
