Dear Readers:

Happy Monday! My staff and I have just finished a big event in Miami (I will be sharing images on FacebookPinterest, Twitter and Instagram) and I am making my way back up to New York as we speak. I am told to expect snow. Fortunately, I love the cold.

I have closed my office in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday, but wanted to write all of you and share a few images I have discovered over the years. As an artist, I am always very interested to see the interpretation of historical figures and events put out by various painters, sculptures, writers and poets. It never ceases to amaze me how no two sets of eyes see the same thing. In many ways, that’s the great beauty and challenge of being an artist, isn’t it? Perception has the ability to shrink and expand your work in the eyes of the audience and so highlights the importance of finding a unique and interesting way to express your message clearly to all who see it.

Take a look at these different paintings of Dr. King (above and below). Which one speaks to you most and why?

Lastly, for those interested, The Smithsonian has profiled a number of interesting images of Dr. King on their website and CNN has put out an interesting piece showcasing various lesser known (yet historically significant) speeches given by the civil rights leader throughout his lifetime.

Blessings,

Preston
